Current Fundraising Priorities

New Campus

The major priority for the university is to undertake the second phase of the Saaka campus development to enable the entire university to be located in a single site. At the moment, there is a split-campus arrangement with half the teaching currently taking place in a dilapidated ex-factory in the center of Fort Portal, ten kilometers away. This is not only a financial strain for the university but also hinders communication between departments and impedes a sense of community and common purpose.

Saaka campus

This is a multi phase project which will deliver purpose build teaching blocks for the University. The five year building programme is anticipated to cost several million dollars in total – individual buildings start at €100,000. A comprehensive master plan for the entire campus development has been created. Phase 2 consists of a further 6 teaching classrooms, a basic administrative block, a student hostel and a multipurpose hall.

Bursaries

As a community university, MMU strives to make studying opportunities available to all members of the community. The university makes every effort to keep course fees low, and even subsidies a number of courses. But despite these efforts courses remain sadly unaffordable to many prospective students. In order to widen access to the more disadvantaged members of the community, MMU would like to create a bursary fund. This fund would award bursaries to students with insufficient financial means but who show exceptional academic potential. The fund would be managed by a panel composed of academic and executive members. It would seek to give opportunities particularly to those groups who are currently under-represented in the student body including women and students with disabilities.

Horticulture student

Full scholarships would be offered at $680USD per student per year to cover tuition fees and accommodation. We would like to offer at least 50 of these scholarships to the most needy students.
