Money raised via the US and UK registered charities passes into a fund administered by investment professionals. Trustees provide oversight to ensure that the fund is run in the best interests of the University. Together with the fund manager they strike the balance between paying out prudently and maintaining the value of the fund in the face of inflation. There is a smoothing mechanism to damp swings in the funding the fund is able to provide which allows the university to plan ahead with a better degree of accuracy.
